Apple juice is a simple and delicious drink that can easily be made at home. We’ll walk you through the best ways to prepare it on your stovetop, in a blender, and even in a juicer, if you have one. In a matter of minutes, you can enjoy a fresh glass of apple juice with tools lying around your kitchen.
Things You Should Know
- Simmer 3 apples covered with 5c (1,200mL) of water on the stove for 30 minutes. Pour the mixture through the strainer and add in ¼ cup (50 g) of white sugar.
- Blend 2-3 chopped apples with 1⁄4 to 1⁄2c (59 to 118mL) of water for 1 minute. Drink the juice as-is, or strain it first.
- Put 3 chopped-up apples through your juicer to produce 1c (240mL) of apple juice.

Peel, core, and de-seed 3 red apples. Rinse off the apples with clean water before you peel off the skin and remove the core.[1] Try to remove all the seeds from the apple cores—although apple seeds aren’t deadly, they can make you sick if you eat too many.[2]
- Empire, McIntosh, Fuji, Gala, Pink Lady, and Red Delicious are all red apple varieties.[3]
2
Put the apples, peels, and cores in a pot and cover them with water. Pour about 5c (1.2L) of water over the peels, seedless cores, and apples, making sure that all of the fruit is submerged.[4]

3
Simmer the apples for 30 minutes. Wait for the apple-water mixture to reach a boil before turning the heat to low. After 30 minutes, check that the water has a golden tint from the apples.[5]
4
Strain the juice and stir in ¼ cup (50 g) of white sugar. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl or pitcher and pour the liquid in. Then, add the sugar to the filtered juice.[6]
5
Refrigerate the leftover juice for 2-3 days. Pour the leftover juice into an airtight container and try to enjoy it as soon as you reasonably can.[7]

Wash, core, and chop 2-3 apples. Core and cut up an equal amount of tart and sweet apples, removing all the seeds you can find as you go. If you prefer, peel the apples ahead of time (it doesn’t make much of a difference either way.[8]
- Apples like Granny Smith, McIntosh, and Pink Lady are on the tarter side, while Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Red Delicious are on the sweeter side.[9]
2
Blend the apple pieces with 1⁄4 to 1⁄2c (59 to 118mL) of water. Set your blender to the highest possible speed, if it has that option. Let the mixture blend for 1 minute until it’s smooth.[10]
3
Strain the juice if you’d like. While the blended mixture is fine to drink on its own, pour it through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or pitcher if you’d like the beverage to be more like store-bought apple juice.[11]
4
Store the juice in the fridge and enjoy it within 2-3 days. Transfer any leftover juice to an airtight container and stick it in the refrigerator. It will remain fresh for 2-3 days.[12]

Core and chop up your apples before juicing them. Remove the cores and seeds from your apples and chop them into smaller pieces. Then, stick them into your juicer and wait for them to be processed into juice.[13] It takes about 3 apples to get 1c (240mL) of juice, so bear that in mind when you’re juicing![14]
- It can help to line the pulp basket of your juicer with a plastic bag before you get started. This makes it easier to use (or toss out) the pulp later on.[15]
- Aim to enjoy or refrigerate the fresh juice within 2-3 days.[16]

Can you add milk to apple juice?

Yes. This is a popular combination in India. Remove the peel and core from an apple and slice it up, then add the slices to a blender with about 1 cup (237 mL) of milk. If you like, you can add a spoonful of honey or sugar for extra sweetness and a pinch of cardamom powder for a more complex flavor. Blend the ingredients together until they’re smooth, and serve the drink cool.

Is pure apple juice good for you?

Staff Answer
In moderation, apple juice is hydrating and nutritious. It may help reduce inflammation and support heart and brain function. However, even pure apple juice is fairly high in sugar, so it can contribute to weight gain and tooth decay if you drink too much of it.

Question
How long does homemade apple juice last?

Staff Answer
Homemade apple juice will usually last 2-4 days in the fridge before it starts to ferment. If you pasteurize it, it will last up to a week in the fridge. If you want to keep it around longer, try canning or freezing it. It will last this way for several months, but once you open or thaw it, use it within 7-10 days.

Article SummaryX
To make apple juice, first rinse about 20 apples under cool water. Then, cut each apple into thin slices. Don't worry about removing the core and seeds since they'll be filtered out later. Place the slices in a pot and fill the pot with 2 inches (5 cm) of water. Bring the water to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce the heat to medium, cover the pot, and let the apples simmer for 20-25 minutes. Place a strainer over a pitcher and pour the apple mixture into the strainer to filter out the seeds, skin, and apples. Push the apples down into the strainer with a large spoon to push out more juice. Finally, put the lid on your pitcher and chill the apple juice in the fridge. To sweeten your apple juice, add 1-2 teaspoons (4-8 g) of sugar at a time until it tastes sweet enough. Your apple juice should last up to 1 week in the fridge.
